Streetsboro -- A benefit concert for Sonny Geraci, a Cleveland native best known as the original lead singer for The Outsiders and Climax, will be hosted by Streetsboro Family Days to be Nov. 15 and 16 at Stringz & Wingz, 1543 Route 303.

Geraci, who suffered a brain aneurysm a year and a half ago, is still working toward a full recovery, and proceeds from the concert will help pay medical bills for the Streetsboro Family Days veteran performer, according to Streetsboro Family Days member Chuck Kocisko, who helped plan the benefit concert.

Kocisko said Streetsboro Family Days hopes to sell at least 2,000 tickets. He anticipates a crowd made up of mostly people age 35 and older, because the national artists scheduled to perform are from the '60s.

The line up includes more than 20 artists, such as Dennis Tufano, Billy Joe Royal, Gary Lewis and many others, as well as surprise guests.

The concert will begin on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. and continue until midnight; on Nov. 16, it will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until midnight.

Geraci is rehabilitating, beginning to walk a couple steps, but still has short-term memory loss, forgetting recent information after 10 minutes, according to Kocisko.

"There's no way to know" how long it will take for Geraci to recover, said Kocisko. "Surgeons said some people pop out of it after six or eight months, sometimes a year or two. There are certain things insurance doesn't pay for, so the income [from the concert] is to help pay for bills."

Because Geraci is still in a wheelchair, his house must be adapted to fit his needs, as well.

Kocisko said two guitars and numerous other items would be raffled off as part of the fundraiser. He said Geraci, who's confined to a wheelchair but can talk and gesture, will probably attend the event at least for awhile.

Kocisko said he's grateful to Tufano who's been busy putting together the music line up for the event.

"He's got a big job, and he's got about nine or 10 days to do," he said.

Kocisko said he also expects a variety of local radio and TV personalities to attend the event, including investigative journalist Carl Monday, Mike Trivisonno who hosts a show on WTAM and more.

Tickets are available at www.thezplex.com for $35 per person, per day. VIP tickets are also available for additional charge; those who wish to purchase VIP tickets can contact "Chef" Bill Thompson at 330-459-6859.
